The excellent Star Guest House and its sister property just up the road, Lee Garden Guest House, are owned and run by the charismatic Charlie Chan, who can arrange most things for you, including China visas.

Immaculately clean rooms with private bath and TV cost HK$250. This is the place I'd go for in this price range. The manager, Charlie Chan, is extremely helpful and friendly. Both guesthouses are run by the same owner, the charismatic Charlie Chan. Both are well kept and managed.
